This module for Process Engineering students is intended to enable students to develop and apply basic theoretical knowledge of various electrical machines such as AC motors, Transformers, Speed drives-AC and DC and the maintenance of these electrical machines. Students will study the principles, the construction, the working and the maintenance of parts of electrical machines which are widely employed across the process industries. Ways of controlling the speed of AC and DC motors, which have vast application in process plant operations, are discussed in detail. A series of classroom tasks, assignments and other assessments drive students towards the development of the analytical, critical thinking skills as well as the graduate attributes that IMCO expects graduates to demonstrate.
